He was already a well-known actor back in 1984. "Actor" was thought of as more of a job title than a way to describe his talent and abilities, but that wasn't the case at first. As soon as James Cameron decided that he would not play the hero in this time-traveling killer robot-dark future thing he had been working on, this outlook changed dramatically. He would play the bad guy instead. To be strong and yell all the time wasn't enough for him. Instead, he had to act like a killing machine, which he turns out he's very good at!
